Here are some answers.

What is Wild Wisdom Yoga?
Breath, yoga and real food have the power to energize and restore. Once instinctive choices, they are becoming unconventional practices and those who choose them may be considered a bit wild. Wild Wisdom Yoga combines intelligently sequenced vinyasa yoga and mindful-eating practices to strengthen and nourish the body. The intent is to create a highly functioning body to help students reconnect to their instinctive wisdom and live a vibrant life. Go ahead, embody your wild side!

What will the training include?
Instructors will lead asana practice and labs, will work with you on teaching techniques and methodology, and lead discussions about yoga philosophy – and how it applies to your everyday life (on and off the mat). Please expect homework, reading assignments, and extra classes/class observations outside of the training hours.

Modules include the art of yoga teaching; yoga specific anatomy; breath and pose fundamentals; thematic class sequencing; effective and magical assists; injury modifications; and yoga philosophy and ethics. Additional time will be spent on mindful-eating practices, subtle body energy, communication skills, and the business of yoga.

What does a typical day in the teacher training program look like?
Training sessions span a weekend: Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday. You can expect most training days to include about 8 hours of training plus time for a midday break. The exception is the Friday schedule of the training weekends; we will meet for about 5 hours in the evening. Click on the training locations above for more information on scheduling.

What are the certification requirements? What is the certification process?
If you’re not planning on teaching after this course, you may choose not to complete the homework assignments and take the course for non-credit. However, if you wish to receive your 200 hour certificate for the course, you must attend all sessions and complete all homework assignments. Homework includes selected reading material, a written report of material learned and how it will be synthesized into personal practice and teaching, and attendance of 30 additional classes and critique of 10 of those classes. You will have up to a year to complete your certification homework. With successful completion of all the requirements of the program you will receive your certificate evidencing your training. You can then register with the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org) at the RYT-200 level (Registered Yoga Teacher).

How much time should I expect to spend on homework and outside classes?
Expect to spend about 25-45 hours on your reading, written assignments, and taking/observing live classes. The homework is designed to support the material covered in the training and help you integrate what is presented into your own practice and teaching.

Are books and materials included in the price of the training?
Your training manual is included in the price of the training. Other required texts must be bought separately. If you’d like to save money on the additional books, we recommend second hand booksellers and swapping books with other trainees. The book list will be shared with trainees a few weeks before training begins.

What if I need to miss some training days?
Missing days should be for emergency only. To receive your certificate, you must attend 100% of the requisite hours to comply with Yoga Alliance requirements. However, we understand that you may not be able to foresee illness, conflicts, or family obligations. We will do our best to coordinate make up time.

There are two ways to make up missed sessions: The first is to book a private session with the teacher whose segment you missed. This is at an extra cost to you. The other option is to write a paper of a determined length that shows you have an understanding of the material covered during missed sessions. All content and resources will be provided to write a comprehensive paper.

I’ve only been doing yoga for a short time. Can I do teacher training?
Yes! Teacher training is for every level of student. The program is based on a step-by-step approach. Each student is encouraged to start where they are and gradually progress their understanding of yoga and practice.

What if I can’t do advanced asana?
No problem. This teacher training will prepare you to teach a challenging class that is accessible for the general adult public. You will learn variations and modifications to increase and decrease the level of challenge. You will also learn pose progressions to build strength and flexibility towards an advanced asana; if that is something you’re interested in.

Does it make sense to take this course if I just love yoga but don’t plan on teaching?
Yes! This course is combination of deepening your personal yoga practice and learning how to communicate your passion and make it a vocation if you so choose. Personal development is an integral part of the course. You will learn a lot more about yoga than just teaching it, but be prepared to teach every weekend of the training.

I am already a yoga teacher, what will I get out of another 200-hour teacher training?
Education for yoga teachers is ongoing. Perhaps you’ve studied another style of yoga and this is your opportunity to learn a complementary practice. This training will supplement your existing knowledge of yoga and challenge you to up level your teaching and communication skills. You could also check out the 500HR teacher training program here.

How much does the teacher training program cost?
Investment options vary by location. Click on the training locations above for more information on pricing. Regardless of location, a non-refundable deposit will be required upon registration.
